Yucatecan mayors ready to defend their territory on boundary dispute with Q. Roo and Campeche

Mayors of the Yucatecan municipalities affected by the territorial changes that the state of Quintana Roo pretends to implement, reported on Thursday June 13th, that they have their legal defense ready to guarantee the rights of the people they represent.

Diego Avila Romero, mayor of Tekax, the Yucatecan municipality located right in the “Point of Territorial Union” (Punto de Unión Territorial: PUT), between Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo, declared that he has spoken with his team of lawyers and they are prepared to attend as a third party interested in the constitutional controversy that will promote the three branches of the State before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation against the government of the state of Quintana Roo.

“This is an issue in which the three branches of the State are taking action on the matter; the truth is that we still do not know exactly what the area of ​​affectation is, but the report that will be presented before the Supreme Court is already integrated, ” said the mayor.

Avila Romero added that on June 13th, he discussed the issue with the local representative for District XII, based in Tekax, Janice Escobedo Salazar, who explained that the legal defense of Yucatan is coordinated between the three powers and the State Congress is attentive to follow up on the topic.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Chemax, in the eastern part of the State, Lucio Balam Herrera, declared that together with his team of lawyers will defend their territory, and will be in permanent communication with the Yucatán State Government.
