Seasonal flights to the Yucatán Peninsula are back. And, this season, the airline is gonna need a bigger plane.

Vacation Express, an Atlanta-based vacation package company and tour operator, is bringing weekly nonstop flights between Memphis International Airport (MEM) and Cancun International Airport (CUN) back on Saturday, May 19.

“We’ve returned with even larger planes due to the success of the program and support from local travelers and travel agents,” said Pamela Caltabiano, Vacation Express PR and social media manager. “The flight times are unbeatable, too, with 8:30 a.m. departures from Memphis and 5:45 p.m. returns from Cancun.”

Last year, the flights were operated by Swift Air LLC on 148-seat Boeing 737-300s. This year, Volaris will operate the weekly flight to Cancun on 180-seat Airbus 320s.

Flights will depart Memphis on Saturday and return Friday as part of a six-night vacation package. The service will run through Aug. 4.

“We are certainly expecting a very strong season and look forward to our continued growth in Memphis,” Caltabiano said.

Hundreds of passengers take advantage of Vacation Express’ annual service linking Memphis to the popular vacation destination, said Pace Cooper, chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, in a prepared statement.

“This is a great option for vacationing families,” Cooper said.
