Washington DC tourist becomes passenger 21 million passing through Cancun’s International Airport

Robert Evans, a tourist from Washington DC, became passenger 21 million passing through the International Airport of Cancun on the morning of Monday December 26.

The head of the State Secretariat for Tourism (Sedetur), Marisol Vanegas Pérez, said that Quintana Roo expects to close the year receiving 15,310,000 visitors, according to the special ceremony offered by authorities and service providers.

This, she said, represents growth of 2.2 percent, compared to 2015.

She added that out of this figure, at least 10,834,822 correspond to tourists, that is, travelers with overnight stays in one of the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean.

Regarding the economic outlay, she said that it is estimated at 8.6 billion US dollars.

She also stated that during the Christmas holidays there is an upturn in tourist flow, which will allow an average annual occupation of 79.8 percent for Cancún, 82.5 percent for Riviera Maya and Tulum, and 51.2 percent for the south zone integrated by Chetumal, Bacalar and Mahahual.
