Tremendous police mobilization was registered during the early morning hours of Thursday December 15 in Isla Mujeres, when emergency number 911 received an anonymous report of a person injured by firearm.

The injured was a taxi driver named Fileadolfo Farías Quintal, who was intercepted by an armed individual who shot him at short distance, while leaving a house in colonia Talleres.

The incident took place in this neighborhood located in the south side of the island, not far from the anticyclonic shelter, on a dirt road with little (or none) street lighting.

Apparently, the suspect was waiting for the taxi driver to come out, and as soon as Farias Quintal stepped out of his sister-in-law’s house, at least five gun shots were heard, according to residents of the area, but the man only received one bullet impact that came in and went through his left thigh.

Fileadolfo Farías Quintal’s brother came to the rescue, and told the police that the wounded taxi driver was immediately taken to the Navy Sanatorium, where he was reported out of danger, while authorities initiated an investigation.

The police mobilization involved the Mexican Navy and lasted for several hours, although it was said there was a detainee, the version was never officially confirmed.

It is important to mention that these events took place only two days after the general assembly of the taxi drivers’ union, that ended up in a trifling.

On Tuesday November 8, Ismael N., a taxi driver member of the “Gustavo Díaz Ordaz” Taxi Drivers’ Union, was executed with two bullets in the head, right in the heart of Isla Mujeres, on Avenida Rueda Medina, in front of the “Monumento al Maestro”.
