Twinning between Valladolid and Asheville

Valladolid, Yucatán, .- As part of the twinning ceremony between the cities of Valladolid, Yucatán and Asheville, North Carolina, on January 21, 50 wheelchairs were delivered to low-income disabled people, senior citizens  and public institutions of Valladolid.

Mayor Alpha Tavera Escalante, accompanied by Karon Korp, general president of the sister cities of Asheville, delivered the first wheelchair to Wiliam Och Cob, a 7 year-old boy, originally from the community of Popolá.

During the ceremony, Carlos Martin Briceño, manager of Bepensa in Valladolid, was acknowledged for the successful transport of the 50 wheelchairs from Asheville to Valladolid.

Karon Korp mentioned that 60 years ago he started the project to help people and that the change does not come only from politicians, but  from “people and families working together”.

As part of the twinning, 10 chairs were also delivered to the general hospital and two to the Mexican Institute of Social Security IMSS of Valladolid.
