According to Caribbean Journal, the Mexican hotspot of Tulum is Airbnb’s top trending destination for New Year’s Eve this year in the Caribbean, this is new data issued by the home-sharing giant.

Tulum has seen 78 percent growth in bookings for New Year’s so far compared to the same period last year, the fourth highest growth rate of any of Airbnb’s global destinations (Mexico City, London and Puerto Vallarta come up as the top three).

It’s an interesting performance for Tulum, which has traditionally been known for its broad collection of boutique hotels and resorts, not its vacation rentals.

Tulum is joined in the Caribbean by the Colombian city of Cartagena, which has seen 71 percent growth in New Year’s bookings.

The most trending New Year’s Eve destinations were released in a report called “where Airbnb travelers are ringing in 2019.”
