Tourists say they would not return to Cancun after shooting at crowded hotel
“It’s still very nice here, but to be honest, I don’t know if I’d go back,” says a foreign tourist a day after the shooting that authorities describe as a clash between antagonistic criminal groups.
“Unfortunately tourists are caught in the crossfire, as we know two weeks ago a couple of girls were murdered,” recalled another tourist in reference to another incident a few weeks ago in which two foreigners were shot dead in Tulum, a site that is part of the same tourist corridor of the Mexican Caribbean.
A hotel in Mexico popular with American tourists was sent into chaos Thursday amid reports of gunfire. According to local authorities, a confrontation between drug dealers had exploded into lethal violence on a beach nearby.
“There was a confrontation between members of hostile groups of drug dealers on a beach in Bahía Petempich, Puerto Morelos. Two of them lost their lives at the scene,” the Quintana Roo state prosecutor’s office tweeted
