We usually forget the importance of caring for our vision and avoid eye diseases that can lead to vision loss. The view is one of the five essential elements in our body. Therefore it is important to keep our eyes healthy and take care of them. Our vision is considered the most important sense of all because we use it all day to perceive at least 80% of all impressions.

It is recommended to get our eyes checked often to be sure that they are healthy and don’t need treatment. There are many ways to protect our vision and keep our eyes healthy.

Tips for eyes care

Avoiding eye care not only affects our functionality but our quality of life. Have you imagined a life with the possibility of not seeing at all? Although we can develop the best functioning of the other senses, we would stop seeing the beauty of the world.

Some tips that can help you to take care of your eyes include:

Prevent eye infections

In case of wearing contact lenses, you must review and follow the steps mentioned by your ophthalmologist to prevent eye infections. As well as follow the instructions on how you must clean them with lubricating eye drops. Don´t forget to replace them when it is needed.

Rest

We use our vision for almost everything, if you are a person who works on a computer, you must remember the importance of resting at least 5 minutes each hour or change the sight every 20 minutes for 20 seconds. Also, you should always blink your eyes to reduce eyestrain for the brightness of the screen.

Protect your eyes

There are many ways to protect your eyes of light and avoid infections:

  • Wear sunglasses: You can protect your eyes from  UVA and UVB radiation while you wear sunglasses. It does not matter if it is sunny or cloudy.
  • Wear protective glasses: If you usually use a computer or cellphone, you should choose glasses for blue light. This way it will be less painful for your eyes.  

Eat healthy food

Your diet should be balanced and include fruits, vegetables, and fish. These foods are healthy for your eyes due to they are rich in omega-3.

Avoid smoking

Smoking can affect your eyes also besides the lungs. It increases the risks of eye diseases such as cataracts, macular generation or hurts the optic nerve. Therefore if you usually smoke, you better quit or try to do it less every time. 

Avoid rubbing your eyes

It is a common habit in people, however, it must be removed as soon as possible due to it can turn into an irritating habit that can damage the eye. This can happen because we usually have our hands covered with plenty of germs that are responsible for different types of infections or diseases. Therefore it is better to forget about this habit or make sure to clean your hands often. 

It is important to consult your doctor commonly, or do vision tests. These tests can find problems in the eyes such as changes in vision to the aging process or coordination between both eyes. Don´t forget how important it is to take care of your eyes and have a check regularly.
