Quintana Roo receives 40 “Best Destination” nominations and 25 awards

According to, the results of the World Travel Awards held at the Hard Rock saw the state of Quintana Roo receive 40 nominations and 25 awards.

Tourism Secretary Marisol Vanegas Pérez was on hand to welcome representatives from the Mexico and Central America destinations who traveled to Cancun for the event. Sion Rapson, vice president of World Travel, was also on hand to congratulate the winners for their hard work, dedication and investments to achieve day to day success.

Awards presented included Riviera Maya for Best Beach Destination for Mexico and Central America, while Playa del Carmen picked up the award for the Most Relaxing Destination. The island of Cozumel took away two awards, one for Best Cruise Port in Mexico-Central America and another for Best Island Destination.

Cancun was presented with the Best Destination for Meetings and Congresses in Mexico and Central America as well as Best Tourist Destination. Tulum won Best Destination Award in Mexico-Central America.


Other categories saw an award go to the Cancun International Airport, the International Convention Center, the Parque Río Secreto and six hotels including Hard Rock Cancun, Grand Hyatt Resort Playa del Carmen, UNICO 20 ° 87 ° Hotel Riviera Maya, Hacienda Tres Rios, Playa del Carmen Paradisus and Hard Rock Riviera Maya.

In the Mexico category for quality and excellence, nine resorts were recognized. Hard Rock Riviera Maya, Rosewood Mayakoba, Hard Rock Riviera Maya, Esencia, Beachfront Villas Viceroy Riviera Maya, Ritz Carlton Cancun, Nizuc Resort & Spa, Hyatt Cancun Ziva, as well as the Bret Michaels Rock Star suit from Hard Rock Riviera Maya.

World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry. The World Travel Awards finale will be held at the end of the year in Vietnam where many of the winners will compete for world titles.
