Quintana Roo is Mexico’s leader in cruise tourism

It is expected that during the next two months more than one million cruise passengers will arrive on board 409 ships….

MERIDA — Quintana Roo is expected to receive more than 5.7 million passengers aboard 2,026 cruise ships in the last three months of this year and during 2018, which will endorse its leadership in cruise tourism, said the state’s governor, Carlos Joaquín González.

The governor said that this will create conditions to create more jobs and improve the quality of residents’ lives.

According to the Secretary of Tourism of the state (Sedetur), from October to December 2017 is projected the arrival of one million 149 thousand 631 cruisers on board 409 boats, of which 320 will arrive in Cozumel and 89 in Mahahual.

For 2018, the projection is 4 million 629 thousand 677 passengers on board 1,167 cruise ships.

From October 2016 to July 2017 the state had a record 3,865,258 cruise passengers. This growth maintains the ports of Cozumel and Mahahual in the preferences of routes of the Caribbean, stressed the governor.

The Quintana Roo governor’s statement was made at the inauguration of the Annual Cruise Conference of the FCCA (Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association), held in Merida, Yucatan on Tuesday October 24.
