Quintana Roo expects the arrival of 4 million tourists during this summer holiday season

Chetumal.- The natural beauties of the state, which make the Quintana Roo people proud, along with the tourism promotion work carried out by the State Government, consolidate the tourism leadership of Quintana Roo and for this summer holiday season the arrival of more than 4 million tourists is expected.

Governor Carlos Joaquín said that thanks to the efforts of all the people of Quintana Roo, the state continues to be the tourist “jewel of the crown” for Mexico, proof of this is that for this summer holiday season, which runs from July 6 to August 25, the state expects to receive more than 4 millions tourists.

“We are the state that in recent times has established itself as the main tourist center in Latin America. Beaches, sea, cenotes, jungle, history and culture, we are a magnet that attracts more and more visitors every day, “added Carlos Joaquin.

“For this holiday season the expected economic income is 3 billion US dollars, which allows the generation of more and better paid jobs for the benefit of the people of Quintana Roo,” the governor added.

Manuel Cruz, restaurateur of Playa del Carmen, said that the tourism promotion of the state has been good and for this holiday season a large number of tourists is expected. “We have high expectations, we hope to have good sales and meet our goals,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lise Vives, country manager of Viajala Mexico, a Latin American meta-search engine for flights and hotels, pointed out that Cancún was the undisputed first place in online searches during the first half of the year.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, headed by Marisol Vanegas Pérez, the generation of new air routes connecting Quintana Roo with the world resulted in an increase of arrivals at the three airports in the state (Cancun, Cozumel and Chetumal).

From January to June 2019, the Cancun International Airport reported 13,214,393 passengers, which represents a growth of 2.1% compared to the same period in 2018.

Meanwhile, in the first half of the year, the Cozumel air terminal registered 327,415 passengers, an increase of 4% compared to the same period in 2018.

And the Chetumal airport reported, from January to May, 152,797 national passengers, both national and international.
