RIVIERA MAYA, Q. Roo — The “fiesta de quince años”, which is a celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday with deep cultural roots in México and Latin America, represents a new market for hoteliers in the Riviera Maya who already began to promote it all over México.

In an interview with Notimex, Inmaculada García, director of Groups, Events and Weddings by Bahía Príncipe Resort Rivera Maya, noted: “There are market segments such as conventions, groups as well as weddings that are highly competitive within this destination, and now “Quinceañeras” represent a very interesting market for all hoteliers.

Mrs. García acknowledged that although this Mexican celebration was gradually lost to give way to travel, now it changed as “Quinceañeras” are seeking to combine a family trip with the celebration, and what better place than the beautiful beaches of the Mexican Caribbean.

“The goal is to attract the national “Quinceañeras” segment: families who want to travel with relatives in order to celebrate this special date and enjoy the marvelous Riviera Maya at the same time. It is a very interesting combination that helps to preserve and rescue this Mexican tradition” García said.

“Quintana Roo lives a boom as beach wedding destination, as many couples want to get married in front of the turquoise Riviera Maya’s beaches. And now, people are asking for other types of ceremonies, such as “Quinceañeras”,” the director continued.

Darío Flota Ocampo, head of the Riviera Maya’s Tourism Promotion Trust, said: “We see a diversification of services along this area that allows Cancún and Tulum to become a worldwide point of reference in the organization of weddings and other religious events”.

“It is a spot of relaxation, tranquility and fun, that is evolving and diversifying into various tourism markets”, he added.
