The Catholic Church celebrates on October 1st the day of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus and of the Holy Face, universal patroness of the missions and of Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo, for this reason the Catholic community of this coastal town celebrated with the spiritual guidance of priest James Hogan, LC
“I want to spend my heaven doing good on earth,” is one of St. Teresa’s ost known phrases. Also known as St. Teresa of Lisieux, she is celebrated every October 1st. She is patroness of the missions and Doctor of the Church.
Santa Teresa lived only 24 years: she was born on January 2, 1873 and died on September 30, 1897. At her funeral there were no more than 30 people in the cemetery of Lisieux. However, this young saint would leave a great legacy of love for the Church that would be known over time.
One year after her death, a book was published from her writings, “History of a soul” that will conquer the world because it reveals how much this young and humble nun had loved Jesus.
She was proclaimed Doctor of the Church by St. John Paul II, who on October 19, 1997 said: “Teresa of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face is the youngest of the ‘Doctors of the Church’, but her powerful spiritual force showed such maturity, and the intuitions of faith expressed in her writings are so vast and deep that they deserve her a place among the great masters of the spirit. ”
“The desire that Teresa expressed of ‘spending her heaven doing good on earth‘ continues to be admirably active and valid nowadays. Thank you, Father, because today you come closer to us in a new way, to the praise and glory of your name for ever! “Concluded John Paul II at that time.
