MERIDA — Given the reduction of public funds intended to rescue Yucatán cenotes, the Ministry of Urban Development and the Environment (Seduma) and the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mérida (Canacome) will present a proposal to private enterprise to raise funds to reach that objective.

Money raised by government dependencies is “insufficient” (PHOTO: El diario de Yucatán).

The spokesman of the Seduma, Eduardo Batllori Sampedro indicated that the resources of this year will not be sufficient for the rescue of cenotes, in comparison to other years, for that reason the support of private companies is sought.

In this sense, Bepensa is one of the companies that already supports programs such as the sanitation of cenotes, which has been implemented in almost a quarter of the nearly 10 thousand bodies of water of this type that are located in Yucatan.

“Much more work has been done around the geo-hydrological reserve to guarantee and maintain the tourist routes as clean as possible,” said Batllori Sampedro.
