PLAYA DEL CARMEN — Mayor Cristina Torres Gómez considered that it is necessary to remove the current landing strip that is in the downtown area of Playa del Carmen, since it generates a serious setback, and besides the property cannot be extended for aeronautical services as it doesn’t have more space.

The mayor acknowledged that a new aerodrome in Puerto Aventuras would be far from the city, which would be inconvenient for the companies that provide air transportation services, however, they are conducting studies in other areas such as the highway to Mérida or Calica.

Torres Gómez pointed out that security and air traffic should be studied, since it is a profitable business for private initiative. In that sense, a longer landing strip can be used by larger aircrafts to transport people between the cities of Chetumal, Cancun, Merida and Cozumel or Playa del Carmen.

Cristina Torres invited the private initiative to carry out an investment for this issue, as the Riviera Maya features luxury hotels, in which you can find people with high purchasing power.
