Passenger shoots taxi driver in Chetumal

On Sunday December 16, around 11 pm, the Chetumal police was alerted about a person wounded with a firearm in the Santa María neighborhood.

According to preliminary information, the victim was a 50-year-old man, who was attacked on José Siurub street in the aforementioned area of the state capital.

When the Public Security agents arrived on site, they found the victim (who happened to be a taxi driver) sitting on the sidewalk with a bullet wound in his right arm, for which he was treated by paramedics of the Chetumal’s Medical Emergency Department.

The cab driver told the police that he picked up a passenger and was taking him to Colonia Santa María, however, upon arriving at the destination, the man took out a pistol and tried to take the driver’s money, he resisted the assault, and in the struggle the weapon was activated and the bullet ended up in the victim’s arm.

The “Hammer”(as he is nicknamed) managed to leave his vehicle, license plate number 79-53 TMR; and he ran a block away from the crime scene, where he was helped by local residents who called the polce. In the meantime, the delinquent escaped.

Experts from the State Prosecutor General’s Office also arrived on site, and when they checked the taxi, they realized that the criminal took nothing (which is kind of suspicious).

The case was turned over to the agent of the Public Ministry for the determination of responsibilities.
