More security in the ports and ferries of Cozumel and Playa del Carmen

Cozumel, March 14 (Infoqroo) .- The operations of the security systems and metal detectors at the San Miguel Fiscal Dock, will begin on Monday, March 19, as part of the strategies of the local Port Authority to strengthen the security of tourists and locals who use the ferries to go back and forth from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen.

The different authorities of the three levels of government gathered in the facilities of the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), reached mutual agreements to implement the International Ship and Port Facility Protection Code (PBIP), after the incidents that occurred in the boats of the company Barco Caribe.

The operations of the security systems and metal detectors at the San Miguel Fiscal Dock, will begin on Monday, March 19, as part of the strategies of the local Port Authority to strengthen the security in Cozumel and Playa del Carmen maritime facilities.

In this regard, the head of the Apiqroo, Alicia Ricalde Magaña announced that they will implement corrective safety measures in the docks of Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, after studies by a group of experts in the field that were sent by the international company Carnival Cruise Lines.

Ricalde said that on Friday March 16, four security arches and metal detectors will be installed in strategic points of the San Miguel dock, and will start operations on Monday March 19.

Finally, she pointed out that users, either local or foreign, can be sure that measures are being taken in order to discard any “unpleasant surprises”.
