Presents: “Our Wonderful World” in its 13th season of armchair travel-adventures with “Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula”

Many travelers consider the Yucatán Peninsula to be one of the globe’s most alluring destinations, spanning from its white-sand beaches to the archaeological wonders of its Maya cities.

The landscape is dominated by limestone bedrock, which created the caves and sinkholes used by the Mayans to access groundwater. The peninsula is also covered with many tropical rainforests and jungles.

In the cities can be found colorful colonial homes and cobbled streets. In the more remote villages, indigenous Maya have preserved their culture and customs, while also still speaking their Maya languages.

Pelicans are among the many birds found in the Yucatàn, and divers exploring the Caribbean coast can find mollusks, turtles, and toadfish, as well as tube sponges among the massive coral gardens.
