Mexican Navy seizes half a ton of cocaine off the coast of Acapulco

On April 19, agents assigned to the Naval Force of the Pacific, Sixth and Eighth Naval Region, confiscated 24 packages with an approximate weight of 500 kilograms of cocaine aboard a small vessel off the coast of Acapulco, Guerrero. Five people were arrested.

The seizure took place after carrying out a field work operation, approximately 89 nautical miles (164 kilometers) southwest of Acapulco Guerrero, when an aircraft of the Mexican Navy sighted a suspicious vessel during a surveillance routine tour, so Surface Units (ships of the Navy of Mexico) and aircraft s were sent to the spot, to carry out a search operation.

During this operation, elements of the Mexican Navy arrested five people of Mexican, Ecuadorian and Colombian nationality aboard an IMEMSA-type vessel with two high-powered outboard motors, in possession of 24 packages containing cocaine, for a total weight of 500 kilograms, in addition to 60 fuel drums.

The detainees, the boat, the fuel and the insured drug will be placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities, for the determination of the ministerial weight, to carry out the tests and to integrate the research portfolio.
