Isla Mujeres taxi rates could increase under new mobility law
Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — According to Riviera Maya News, taxi rates on Isla Mujeres could see a spike after a proposal by the Trade Union to increase fares.
The Gustavo Diaz Ordaz Trade Union of Tax Drivers could benefit from the recent announcement made by the head of the Mobility Institute regarding rate increases.
Jorge Pérez Pérez, head of the union, said that they could have an answer about the proposed rate increase by the end of the year.
He says that a case study was conducted on Isla Mujeres nine months ago and that the approval will depend on the justifications issued regarding the economic situation of citizens.
Pérez Pérez explained that part of the responsibilities of the new Mobility Institute is to work with the other municipalities to analyze and address the needs and issues of public transportation service fees.
He says that the proposed increase is for a 10 to 15 percent hike in taxi rates and that the proposal is under analysis.
