“There is people irregularly occupying the port of Isla Mujeres, and these people need to clean up after themselves, and keep the public space free of garbage”, said the director of the Administration Integral Port of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), Alicia Ricalde Magaña.

Despite the fact that a memorandum was sent to them to cooperate with the eviction and cleaning of the area, these irregular occupants have done absolutely nothing about the problem.

Only last week the API staff carried out a clean-up campaign in which more than nine tons of garbage were removed. (Photo: dqr.com.mx)

Last week the API staff carried out a clean-up campaign in which more than nine tons of garbage were removed.

“We all have the right to use this port area, it’s a national asset and it’s one of the best places in the world to watch the sunset, and we want everyone to enjoy that,” said the official.

She said that unfortunately, just a few months ago, the space began to be invaded and it is time for these people to become aware of the situation, evict the premises and leave the space free of trash.

The clean up operation was carried out by local authorities along with the Conanp, Isla Mujeres Harbor Master, Semarnat, Navy of Mexico and municipal staff.
