Within the framework of the World Tourism Day and the Second Anniversary of Isla Mujeres as Pueblo Mágico, several  commemorative activities will be held at the island, mainly focused on Sustainable Tourism, care and protection of the environment.

This celebration is carried out by the Isla MujeresHall, through the General Directorate of Tourism, the Directorate of Magic Towns and the Institute of Culture and Arts.

José Castillo Magaña, Isla Mujeres general director of Tourism, on behalf of municipal president Juan Carrillo Soberanis made an open invitation to the community to participate in the activities planned for this double commemoration that closes on September 30 with a ceremony of recognitions to the business sector and the presentation of the musical group “Marconi”, starting 8 PM at Playa Posada del Mar.

“It is a great honor to invite the entire island community to join us in all the activities we have prepared to commemorate the World Tourism Day that this year is held under the motto of “Sustainable Tourism as a Development Instrument“, for that reason we want to focus on environmental related activities such as reforestation, beach cleaning and generation of more green areas within the island,” said the official.

In that sense, Castillo Magaña, declared that it is also a real pride to celebrate the second anniversary of Isla Mujeres as “Pueblo Mágico“, in which municipal president Juan Carrillo Soberanis, the local communityl and private initiative have worked together hand in hand to preserve that title, as Isla Mujeres is an iconic “Magic Town” and world-class tourist destination for the state of Quintana Roo.

The calendar of activities began on Wednesday, September 27, at 8 AM with reforestation in “Playa Norte“, and continues at 8:30 AM with the delivery of containers for cigarette butts, in “Playa Centro“.

On Friday, September 29, at 8 AM, the cleaning of green areas and mangroves in Punta Sur and Sac Bajo, and at 19:00 hours, the screening of the series of documentaries “Voices of the Sea” (Voces del Mar) at the outdoor theater located in Colonia”La Gloria” park.
