Inclusive transportation, available in nine municipalities of Quintana Roo

A total of three thousand people with disabilities and older adults, in nine municipalities of the State of Quintana Roo will have 15 specialized transport units at their disposal, so that they have means of transportation according to their needs.

In Chetumal, the Government of the State, through the state System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF), made the delivery of 15 units equipped to properly provide transport service to people with disabilities and seniors; the state investment was $8,202,450 pesos.

Each unit has a cost of $546,830 pesos, and were given to the drivers on a loan to provide this service, who in turn committed to keep the units in optimum condition and to only provide service to people with disabilities, or elders.

Of the 15 people who will be responsible for providing the service, 12 are men and three are women, with the particularity of having at least one family member who suffers from a disability, in addition to having received training in first aid, basic mechanics and human rights. to grant this type of service.

In Solidaridad there will be four units circulating; in Benito Juárez, three; Othón P. Blanco, two; José María Morelos, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Lázaro Cárdenas, Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, will have one unit each.

The program “Specialized Transport Unit for People with Disabilities” (Unedif) was launched by Carlos Manuel Joaquín González, governor of the state, and Gabriela Rejón de Joaquín, president of DIF Quintana Roo, on in Chetumal.

In the event it was announced that it is estimated that each unit can provide up to 120 daily services, which will yield a profit of up to 500 pesos a day to the driver.

Carlos Joaquín González said that the units will be very useful for the transportation of those who need it most, with the proper security measures. People who have the sensitivity to provide the service, allows our state to advance in the reduction of inequality, so that people with disabilities have more and better opportunities to get around and live normal lives.
