In Quintana Roo there is no census of plastic art, it is only known that in the Othón P Blanco municipality there are 70 murals.

Jacqueline Estrada Peña, director of the Institute of Culture and Arts (ICA) in the state indicated that they will start with a census in order to collect all the information on culture that exists in the state and thus form the Atlas of Cultural Heritage of Quintana Roo.

“We started a census, as we did not have any catalog of murals in Quintana Roo, we already collected the information in the municipality of Othon P. Blanco and will continue with the other municipalities” she said.

She indicated that in order to obtain this type of information, they required help from the cultural centers and hope that at the end of the year with the data collected, they can build a digital platform or atlas of the state’s cultural heritage.

“It will have a section with all the information sheets on material, immaterial, music, murals, and all the cultural aspects of the State of Quintana Roo, it will be an atlas of cultural spaces where there will be also houses of culture, amphitheatres, galleries, museums and more”.

Estrada Peña stated that the information on the state’s culture was very limited in the past administration and with this new platform, it could even be promoted as part of the tourist attractions of the state.

“This platform will be very useful for consultation: artists, cultural centers, where to go, what to do, schedules, itineraries, everything the traveler wants to know about culture in the state. We are trying to achieve dialogue with all independent cultural groups” she said.

According to ICA, the Borge administration left a terrible damage to the state’s cultural stock, with damaged buildings, the disappearance of a central library and also, more than 50% of the murals and sculptures destroyed.

“The present adminstration will work on the rehabilitation of the state’s capital heritage ” Estrada Peña concluded.
