Playa del Carmen remains as a favorite for tourists during May and June, months in which a hotel occupancy of 85% is expected, and which represents a daily flow of more than 34,000 visitors.

Rocío Ocampo Colmenares, head of the General Directorate of Tourism of Solidaridad explained that in coordination with the Directorate General of Civil Protection and the Consular Corps accredited in the State of Quintana Roo, attention is being provided to tourists, who mostly come from United States, Canada, France, Argentina and Spain, as well as Brazil, Scotland and Israel.

“We started the season of the year in which Playa del Carmen is chosen by groups of tourists who visit us to hold weddings, conventions and graduation trips, so that there are hotels that host more than two events a day.”

Travelers choosing Playa del Carmen have an average stay of one week. However, there are emerging markets such as the Israeli tourists that exceed this figure, as well as the European, paying hosting services for up to 15 days in average.

Ocampo Colmenares indicated that the dependency provides orientation to visitors through the Tourist Assistance Modules, located on Constituyentes Avenue, in the Civic Plaza 28 de Julio and on the Quinta Avenida, which is the main economic and touristic corridor in the city.

The head of the Civil Protection Office, Juan Carlos Medina Sosa, stressed that the surveillance on beaches and in the tourist zone has been strengthened by having more than 120 agents of this corporation and the Fire Department, who work together with the Federal and State Police corporations.

“The inspection in lodging centers has started, so that they comply with the maintenance of their facilities and the established regulations, before the start of the hurricane season.”

Likewise, restaurants and commercial establishments are being verified, the beaches are monitored with the support of lifeguards and agents of the Directorate of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone and operations are carried out on the highways and roads, in coordination with the General Directorate of Public Safety and Transit, to guide, help or assist travelers if required.

The Mexican Red Cross, the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Armed Navy of Mexico and the Federal and State Police collaborate in these actions, as well as voluntary organizations, such as tourism service providers, diving associations, boatmen, fishermen, hoteliers and restaurateurs.
