Fisherman catches crocodile in Playa del Carmen’s Calle 16
Luis, a young fisherman from the cooperative Xaman-Ha, observed a good-sized crocodile hovering in the sea, near the shore of the beach, on one side of the rustic dock on 16th Street in Playa del Carmen.
The young man used his shorts to tie the snout of the crocodile, and without any clothes on, he took it out of the water.
Other fishermen said that they noticed the presence of the reptile since Tuesday Sep. 18, and that they warned the authorities, however, nobody came to track the whereabouts of the crocodile, despite the danger posed to local and tourists by the size of the animal.
In the same beach area known as “El Recodo” at least, in a few years, three crocodiles have appeared, which could come from the mangrove area in Punta Esmeralda.
