For seventh consecutive year, the Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean® will be held in Cancun and other locations of the state of Quintana Roo, the most important environmental education event in the Yucatan Peninsula.

From May 16 to June 9, graphic art, public speaking, scientific, recreation and ecological activities will take place as part of the program of the seventh edition of the Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean, an initiative of Delphinus to create environmental awareness among the local community and visitors can a call to action in favor of the sustainable use of the resources of the sea.

The Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean is a reality thanks to the support of public, private and civil society institutions, who share the vision of the organizers to achieve the 2030 agenda of the United Nations established in the 17 Objectives of the Sustainable Development, SDG, which is a clear example of Objective 17: Alliances to achieve the SDGs.

In 2019, like last year, Delphinus has asked the Mexican Carbon Platform, MEXIC02, to neutralize the Greenhouse Gases for the activities of the seventh edition of the Festival of the Oceans.

Throughout its 6 editions, the “Festival of the Oceans” has generated the mobilization of 868 volunteers who have helped to collect 2,590 kilos of garbage from beaches and mangroves of Isla Contoy, Isla Blanca and Puerto Morelos. Who have helped to consume 540 Kg of Lion Fish, an invasive species from the Caribbean, that needs to be controlled, and has served to inspire gastronomy students to generate 80 original recipes.

A total of 333 original photographs have been exhibited in 5 exhibitions, 719 drawings of children from all over Mexico have been received; 20 experts in marine ecosystems, journalism and activists gave stimulating informative lectures of scientific dissemination to 2,400 students, four great concerts were presented by the Esperanza Azteca Quintana Roo Youth Symphony Orchestra and two murals of 325 linear meters were also donated, for a total 7 thousand people that have enjoyed the Festival’s events.
Today, the Festival is recognized as the most important environmental education event in the Mexican Caribbean, because thanks to ecological, recreational, gastronomic and academic activities, the Festival serves also as a great forum for scientific dissemination, artistic expression and promotion for our tourist destination.

The Festival of the Oceans has been recognized in 2014 as the Best Public Relations Program by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Atractions, IAAPA.

The Secretariat of Tourism of Quintana Roo and the Association of Public Relations of the Mexican Caribbean awarded the Festival of the Oceans, as the “best PR campaign” in the “meetings” category.
In 2016, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, SEMARNAT, awarded the Festival of the Oceans a “Special Mention” and the Award for Ecological Merit. In 2017, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), recently named Delphinus co-recipient to the “Marine Environment Protection” award in the “Non-Profit” category
