Cancun, Q.R. — Federal police have arrested 17 people at the Cancun International Airport for traveling with false documents.

The arrests took place at 3:00 p.m. in Terminal 1 of the Cancun airport when they tried to board an Aerobús flight.

Federal police detained 17 people from Honduras and El Salvador who were traveling on false documents. Police say they were bound for Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

The 13 men and four women identified themselves with false driver’s licenses from the states of Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Nuevo Leon, State of Mexico, Guerrero and Veracruz.

The undocumented said they were of Salvadoran and Honduran nationality and accepted that the driver’s licenses were false and that they intended to use them as identification during their travel to the United States.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the General State Prosecutor’s Office and the National Migration Institute for investigations into the crime of using false documents and their illegal stay in the country.
