RIVIERA MAYA — PRNewswire reports that El Cid Resorts, a world leader in the hospitality and accommodations industry, encourages travelers to visit the Riviera Maya, where they’ll find some of the most important, not to mention beautiful, historical sites in the Americas.

The Yucatán Peninsula was once the cultural and economic center of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, and the heart of a Mayan Empire that rivaled any classical European or Mediterranean civilization in size and importance. El Cid Resorts is proud to offer two different luxury hotels in the region, allowing visitors to choose between two unique experiences.

The Riviera Maya, a stretch of Caribbean coastline on the northern and eastern sides of México’s Yucatán Peninsula, is known the world over for the density of its stunning Mayan ruins, as well as highly popular vacation destinations like Cancún and Cozumel.

El Cid Resorts recommends visitors to these resort towns make sure to take time out of their vacations to check out the nearby archeological sites.

The closest archeological site to El Cid Resorts Cancún location – Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort – is the El Rey ruins, a site that is actually inside the Cancún city limits. While perhaps not quite as grand as some of the other ruins in the region, the El Rey ruins are still awe-inspiring, and have the advantage of being very near everything else Cancún has to offer.

El Cid Resorts guests can explore El Rey in the morning, head to the beach in the afternoon, then hop into town for dinner in the evening. A little ways inland from Cancún, visitors will find what is perhaps the most important Mayan archeological site; Chichen Itza.

Built around the Temple of Kukulcán – known in Spanish as El Castillo – Chichen Itza dominated the Mesoamerican world for several centuries, exporting its culture throughout most of México and Central AmericaChichen Itza is a large complex, making it hard to take in everything at the site in a single day, but El Cid Resorts guests visiting Chichen Itza won’t want to miss the Temple of Kukulcán, the Great Ball Court, and the Temple of the Warriors while they’re there.

Moving further south, and closer to the El Cid Resorts Cozumel location – El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel – visitors will find some of the most stunning ruins in the Mayan world. The ancient city of Coba, located a few miles inland, is even older than Chichen Itza, and was once just as culturally important as its more famous neighbor.

The Coba site also has the distinction of being surrounded by jungle, making visiting it a unique experience. On the coast just south of Cozumel, El Cid Resorts guests will find the ruins of Tulum. While not a large site, Tulum is certainly one of the most beautiful.

Built along the cliffs overlooking the turquoise waters of the CaribbeanTulum was once a Mayan seaport trading in jade and obsidian, and likely controlled by Coba. Today it is one of the most stunning spots on the Yucatán Peninsula, one that El Cid Resorts guests won’t want to miss.
