El Cid Resorts highlights family activities in the Riviera Maya

According to PRNewswire, although the Mayan Riviera is a haven for couples and singles, there are a significant number of kid-appropriate activities that families can partake in. Some tips to remember include keeping change on hand for the fees to use restrooms and purchase toilet paper. Carrying plenty of water is essential to staying properly hydrated. Using natural sunscreen is preferred to protect the eco-system when you swim. Mini-busses, also known as Colectivos or taxis are recommended since driving a rental car on unfamiliar roads can be more stressful then riding with someone who knows the landscape.

Several beaches in the Akumal area are filled with very soft, white sands and crystal clear waters. Snorkeling beside sea turtles, stingrays, and various species of tropical fish will thrill older kids and teens that can swim well. There is a grocery store just outside the beach where parents can load up on snacks to take with them to avoid interruption from famished little ones.

Xel-Ha Park is a dream for parents and kids alike. Many families flock to this park for the various activities available. For middle-school kids and teens along with adults, there is cliff diving, zip lining, snorkeling tours, and jungle hikes. For the smaller set, playground equipment is on the premises, art activities, and a wading pool is available to keep them happy. Some families spend more then one day here to maximize the fun and utilize the all-inclusive tours.

Near Puerto Moreles are several very popular beach areas beloved by families. Parents can appreciate the presence of lifeguards on several beaches. Many watersports activities are available, such as kayaking and sailing excursions. Some hotels have playgrounds extending to the beach. Kids of all ages can appreciate the roped off areas with nesting sea turtles waiting to hatch from eggs. The nests are very fragile and are checked regularly to make sure they are not tampered with. This is a way to sneak in a really interesting learning experience for kids, teens and parents.

Off the shore of Bahia Petempich you will find Puerto Morelos Reef National Park with small boats leaving Bahia to reach this beach daily. Allow at least a half-day to get back and forth from the area. Snorkeling trips involve at least one hour of swimming so older kids and teens will likely have the amount of stamina necessary to handle this activity. At the park, the number of birds and wildlife roaming about will likely amuse the younger kids. Such birds as egrets, pelicans, herons and others walk along the sand, are a photographer’s dream. One cautionary note, however, is to safeguard your snacks or lunch, since birds are not shy about diving down to snatch food that is not safeguarded.

At Maroma Beach, families can find more privacy and experience some fun activities such as camel and horseback rides on the beach, as well as swimming with dolphins. Top off a stay filled with enjoyment by shopping at the small store that sells souvenirs and then eating a meal at either the name brand or Mexican cuisine restaurants.

The Mayan Riviera is filled with many choices when it comes to traveling. Both children and teens will be quite happy with the activities available for their families to share.
