The smartphone application that brings you face to face with the species and subspecies of birds that inhabit Cozumel was launched during the Second Festival of the Hummingbird Emerald on April 13th, and is now 100% fully functional.

“The application, the first of its kind in the state, is already available for Android and iPhone operating systems”, confirmed Ángel Rafael Chacón Díaz, director of Conservation and Environmental Education (CEA) of the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC).

The software not only provides information about the bird fauna of the island, but it allows to interact with these fantastic living organisms.

Rafael Chacón pointed out that the FPMC is a pioneer in the use, diffusion and conservation actions through an App that only needs to be downloaded from a smartphone. Just look for “Aves de Cozumel” in the Google Play Store or Apple Store.

The system is simple and leads users through their installation, which only takes a few seconds. It was officially introduced during the Second Festival of the Emerald Hummingbird.

The App will allow access to information only available to researchers, on the biodiversity of birds, featuring an option that allows Internet users to upload photographs of this animals with data related to the location and date, so the information can be integrated into the database.

About the Emerald Hummingbird, Ángel Rafael Chachón recalled that in the island there are three species with the names of cinnamon, black-throated and emerald hummingbird, while in the Yucatan Peninsula the number of different types of hummingbirds goes up to 12.
