Despite negative news, Playa del Carmen is still a favorite destination for foreign tourists

The General Directorate of Tourism in Playa de Carmen, Quintana Roo, reported that during Holy Week there was an increase of 18.19 percent in the arrival of foreign tourism, while hotel occupancy reached 91.46 percent.

According to a statement from the state agency, Playa ranks second on the list of the 10 most wanted tourist destinations in Mexico for vacationing.

The report stated that according to an investigation conducted by the hotel price comparison search engine Trivago, out of 100 international tourists, 44 percent travel on vacation, 39 percent on business and 17 percent travel only for the weekend.

Talking about Mexican nationals, 49 percent travel for business, 45 percent for the weekend and only 8 percent for vacations.

Regarding places of origin, 42 percent of those seeking hotels in Mexico on this site are from the United States, while Argentines occupy the second place with 17 percent, Canadians with 9 and Brazil with 8 percent. while on the other hand, the number of English, German and Spanish travelers is increasing.

In addition to Playa del Carmen, in the list of the 10 most wanted national destinations include

  2. Puerto Vallarta
  3. Acapulco
  4. Mazatlan
  5. Mexico City
  6. Ixtapa
  7. Nuevo Vallarta
  8. Huatulco
  9. Cabo San Lucas

Recently, authorities of the municipality of Solidaridad reported that Playa del Carmen is the favorite tourist destination in all of Latin America and the only one of Mexico within the 25 most popular sites in the world awarded in the TripAdvisor’s Travelers Choice Awards 2018, coming in 15th place worldwide.
