SOLIDARIDAD, Q.Roo – More than 20 pellets were found in the lifeless body of a female jaguar that was hit by a car on Sunday March 10, on the road that connects the tourist destinations of Playa del Carmen and Tulum, revealed the necropsy performed on the animal. One version says that the wounds did not seem fresh, but it does show that at some point poachers tried to hunt it down.

Another version is that the female jaguar could have been fleeing from poachers and was disoriented by the effect of ammunition on her body.

The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (Profepa) and the municipal authorities requested the necropsy for the cause of death to be determined.

The report that led to the discovery of the lifeless body of the jaguar was received after 2100 hours on Sunday, and was made by citizens who alerted the authorities in the municipality.  Civil protection personnel and firefighters cordoned off the area and the specialists carried out the removal of the body, which was taken away to perform the autopsy requested. At the time of being processed, the jaguar was lifeless, with a fractured skull and a detached eye.
