The criminals clone the economic number of the taxis to cheat and assault passengers.

CANCUN — This year, the “Andrés Quintana Roo” Taxi Drivers Union reports that eight taxi units were detected that were used to commit crimes.

According to union data, from the total number of vehicles reported as offenders, four units were stolen directly from taxi operators, three of them with violence, and in one case the taxi driver did not realize that the vehicle was stolen when it was parked outside his home.

The stolen vehicles were used to commit crimes such as robbery and one case of attempted rape, said Luis Miss Gonzalez, a spokesman for the “Andrés Quintana Roo” Taxi Drivers’ Union.

The other four taxi units were cloned using the economic number, and the criminals occupied the vehicle for mugging of passengers. It was also said that the owner of the concession was unaware that his unit had been cloned, as did the taxi driver, since simultaneously two units with the same number operated in the city; one provided normal services and the another one carried out robberies.

Theft and crime data were reported by users through the “Taxi Complaints” platform, of the Taxi Drivers Union.

For complaints about bad service and even cases of violence and insecurity, in which taxi drivers participate, taxi users can call or message a number of Whats App 99 81 55 47 35, where they deposit the reports, in addition to social networks on Facebook: Taxi Complaints.
