Cozumel welcomes “Symphony of the seas” the largest cruise ship in the world

With the arrival of the largest cruise ship in the world, the “Symphony of the seas”, the island of Cozumel confirms its leadership as the number one cruise destination worldwide.

The boat, with capacity for more than 8,000 passengers and a crew of more than 2,000 people, docked on the island Sunday Noember 11, 2018.

“The leadership of Cozumel as a cruise destination allows generating conditions to create more jobs and improve the quality of life of the people; It strengthens the tourism industry and promotes actions to attract more investment and consolidate Quintana Roo as a regional power. Since the beginning of the administration, the State Government has been working to intensify tourism promotion and offer diverse products, in order not to depend solely on holiday seasons”, said Governor Carlos Joaquin.


“With more and new business opportunities, together we advance in the reduction of inequality, with benefits for all families and not just for a few,” the state governor continued.

The director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, Darío Flota Ocampo welcomed the Symphony’s Captain, Robert Hempstead.

According to data from the Integral Port Administration, in the year of 2017 there was a total of 1,245 arrivals and 4,103,787 passengers; and until September 2018, 943 arrivals had been registered and 3,116,285 passengers.

This historic figure confirms the commitment of the Royal Caribbean International company to consider the island as pat of its itineraries. During the current administration, agreements and negotiations with shipping companies have been made to consider the island of Cozumel as a point of arrival for these magnificent “floating hotels”.

The “Symphony of the seas” arrives on the island of Cozumel for the first time. After sailing from Miami on Wednesday, November 7, it sailed through the Caribbean Sea to the Roatan Islands in Honduras. After being in Cozumel, the ship will continue to the port of Nassau, in the Bahamas, and, later, it will return to Miami, where his journey ends.

The municipal president of Cozumel Pedro Joaquín Delbouis and the director of the Port Administration of Quintana Roo (APIQROO) Alicia Ricalde Magaña, were also present at the event.
