In this context, the former president of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) of Cozumel and aspiring to the municipal presidency of the island, Pedro Joaquín Delbouis, held several meetings with representatives of the cruise industry to guarantee the visitor safety in Cozumel and the usual high quality of tourism services.

Additionally, he held a meeting with the Vice President of Carnival Corporation, Giora Israel; the CEO and President of MSC Cruises, Richard E. Sasso, and the Vice President for Cruise Operation, Albino di Lorenzo; as well as with the correspondent of tourism of the American chain CBS, Peter Greenberg.He made it clear that Cozumel competes with Caribbean destinations that are modernizing their hotel and service offerings, so these are areas in which the municipality does not It can be left behind.
Cozumel’s leadership in the cruise industry is evident, it is the main recipient of cruise tourism in the Caribbean, followed by Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, the island of Roatan in Honduras and Falmouth, Jamaica. , who occupy the second, third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Cosumel closed 2017 with a record 4,1 million cruise passengers, which represents a growth of 11.37% compared to 2016, according to figures of the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo).
