This festival celebrates the cultural encounter that took place in May 1518, when Spanish ships arrived in a new land that they named the island of Santa Cruz, known by the Mayas as Cuzamil, and where the first Catholic mass was celebrated in the national territory.

The program of celebrations of this commemoration began in May 2017 and has included numerous artistic and cultural activities on the island, such as the inauguration of the Meeting Gallery.
