Colectivo “Malinches Ingobernables” will launch the Feminist Patrol in Cancun starting March 8th

The objective of the vehicle is to help women in vulnerable situations and offer legal and psychological support

Cancún, Quintana Roo – La Jornada Maya, (January 17, 2022).- In order to decentralize the feminist movement and appropriate public spaces in the streets through workshops and consultancies, the Malinches Ingobernables collective and other organizations in favor of human rights in Cancún have announced the launch of the Feminist Patrol as of March 8, reported Diana Miramontes, one of the coordinators.

The members of Malinches Ingobernables have been organizing since September for women’s rights in Cancun. Their first project as a group is the Feminist Patrol, based on an initiative that already works in Oaxaca and that basically consists of a vehicle that reaches strategic points to help women in vulnerable situations and offer legal and psychological help.

The main objective of this feminist collective is the decentralization of the occupation of spaces in Cancun, particularly, since most of the concentrations or mobilizations have been carried out in the downtown area such as the Las Palapas park.

The implementation of this project will start on March 8, International Women’s Day, and will begin with the preparation of posters and banners of anonymous complaints against debtors who do not pay alimony- or suspects of vicarious violence, those who seek to violate women through relatives, such as children.

The Feminist Patrol will also take workshops aimed at women and taught by feminist lawyers on issues of violence, as well as self-defense courses, to the neighborhoods and regions of Cancun.

“We want women to know that they are not alone, that we are going to support them and we are going to help them move forward,” and she noted that this patrol is designed so that services are offered free of charge.

The activist concluded that if each woman in this state knows that she is protected this is a step forward to stop gender violence.
