Chichen Itza, the most visited tourist attraction in Yucatan this summer

“According to Cultur, Chichen Itza remains the most visited tourist attraction in Yucatan, since during the summer vacation period, from July 1 to August 25, this important archaeological site received 453,629 tourists , a figure similar to the same period last year, between local, national and foreign visitors”, said the general director of Cultur Mauricio Díaz Montalvo.

“Considering that the holiday period had a total of 56 days, Chichen Itza received an average of  8,100 visitors per day, an important figure, considering the insecurity and sargassum situations in Quintana Roo, since most tourists comes from that neighboring state”. he added.

“The day of least influx for that archeological site was Saturday, August 24 with 4,615 tourists and the highest was on July 21 with 16,323”, Diaz Montalvo explained.

He also stated that the second site with the highest influx was Uxmal with 61,372 visitors against 56,485 during the same period last year, which represents an increase of 8.7%.

The third site with the highest number of assistance was the Zací artisan market in Valladolid, with 46,281 against 36,949 last year (up 26.7%).

“El Corchito” registered 33,288 visitors (practically the same as in 2018 when it received 33,224).

Cenote X´Kekén registered 33,012 against 27,962 in 2018, showing a 7.3% increase.

Dzibilchaltún received 29,970 compared to 24,114 of 2018, which shows a growth of 23.5%.

Celestún recorded 17,597 visitors compared to 13,855 the previous year, which represents a 27% increase.

The general director of CULTUR, Mauricio Díaz Montalvo, concluded that the total number of visitors to the different “Tourism Service Units” during the summer holiday period, came up to a record 787,042.
