“Cancun is very close to reaching historic occupancy figures and it is only a matter of a few more hours before the destination is at 100% of its occupation”, said the director of the Municipal Tourism Office, Francisco López Reyes.
In an interview, he said that the hotel sector expects average occupancy of at least 95%, which would leave an economic spill of more than one billion US dollars.
Likewise, he reported that a recovery in sales is expected in other tourist sectors, such as restaurants, grocery stores, tours, boat trips and ecotourism parks that operate along the Cancun-Tulum corridor including the islands Of Holbox, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel.
According to the Municipal Tourism Officer, only in Cancun a daily movement of 4,000 tourists is expected. These would be mostly Mexican tourists from different parts of the country who take advantage of the Christmas and New Year’ s Eve holidays to visit the destination.
