Cancun and Los Cabos: the unidisputed most visited tourist destinations in Mexico

Cancun, Quintana Roo and Los Cabos, are the most visited tourism destinations by foreign tourists in all of Mexico .

Since 2010, more than half of the foreign travelers who come to Mexico on vacation, have visited these two cities. The average number of international tourists received in the last eight years has increased significantly.

According to information from the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), only in the first four months of the year, 580,226 foreign tourists were received in Los Cabos.

Since January 2010, the number of visitors from the rest of the world who arrive to Los Cabos has increased by an average of 4.4%. During this period, international tourists represented 74.9% of the total number of visitors.


Cancun, Quintana Roo, is definitely the tourist destination that receives the larger number of visitors in the whole country. In the first quarter of 2018, 2,889,000 tourists were received and according to data from Sectur, eight out of every 10 visitors come from abroad.

The volume of international tourists in Cancun has grown an average of 3.36% in the last eight years. Of all the visitors that this destination has hosted since 2010, 64.6% are foreign.

According to Sectur information, national tourists represent a majority in destinations such as Huatulco in the state of Oaxaca, and Acapulco and Ixtapa in the state of Guerrero, destinations in which the average percentage of visitors from other countries is lower than 20% .
