Canadian citizen arrested at Cancun airport after gun found in luggage

A Canadian citizen was arrested at the airport in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico five days ago, after allegedly bringing a gun with him on a commercial flight, according to a Federal Police report.

Mexican authorities reported Friday Dec. 7th that a Calgary man arriving on a WestJet flight was found to be concealing a Colt .25 automatic handgun and ammunition in a checked bag.

The report states the man, identified only as Timoty N, lacked necessary documentation to bring the weapon into Mexican territory and was arrested by Federal Police officers on the premises of the Cancun International Airport.

Global Affairs Canada confirmed on Friday December 7th, that a Canadian citizen had been arrested in Mexico, adding they were unable to disclose any other information.

WestJet said they were looking into the reports.
