“Blue Crab Protection Day” to be held in Cancun

CANCÚN, Q. Roo.- One of the least exploited tourist attractions of Cancun are the different ecosystems and living creatures that inhabit the area, for this reason the Benito Juárez City Council is currently orgainizing the “Blue Crab Protection Day”.

The event will be held on October 4, 5 and 6 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The meeting points are: Playa Las Perlas, located in Cancun’s hotel zone, Playa El Mirador II and Malecón Tajamar.

Anybody interested in participating with the “Blue Crab Brigade” must bring a flashlight, working gloves, a bucket, a dustpan, mosquito repellent and dress in white.

This 3-day activity is being organized by the Directorate of Ecology of the Benito Juarez Municipality.

ABOUT THE BLUE CRAB

The blue crab is so named because of its sapphire-tinted claws. Its shell, or carapace, is actually a mottled brownish color, and mature females have red highlights on the tips of their pincers.
