An Arlington, Texas firefighter was found dead in the Mexican resort town of Cancun where he had gone with his wife to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary, the Arlington Fire Department stated.

Elijah Snow, a firefighter for eight years and a father of two children had gone to an all-inclusive hotel in Cancun with his wife, according to family friends.

They were drinking at a hotel bar when his wife returned to their room and he stayed behind, they said. She woke up about 4 a.m. and when she realized he wasn’t there she went searching for him.

Further details about Snow’s death have not yet been confirmed by Police in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo (where Cancun is located), local authorities did not immediately respond to a request for information.

“Our family has been struck with tragedy. We are heartbroken with loss,” Snow’s father-in-law Randy Elledge wrote on Facebook.

Arlington Professional Firefighters, a labor association representing Arlington firefighters, told NBC News in Arlington, Texas, that on Thursday, July, 22nd, that Snow was an apparatus operator and, “was an outstanding firefighter as well as a dedicated public servant.”

The APFF added that Snow was the son of Arlington firefighter Ronny Snow who died in the line of duty in 1985.

“The Arlington Fire Department will take all necessary steps to ensure that Elijah’s family is properly supported throughout this difficult time,” the APFF said. “Our prayers are with his family.”

Memorial services are Monday and Tuesday in Arlington. A visitation is being held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 26 at Moore Funeral Home on Davis Drive. A Celebration of Life will be held July 27 at Rush Creek Church on Green Oaks Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations for “Elijah’s Family” are being accepted by the Arlington Professional Firefighters Charitable Fund.
