300 policemen will be hired to face violence and insecurity in Cancun

After the wave of violence that flared up in Cancun, the municipal president, Remberto Estrada Barba announced that in the coming months they hope to incorporate around 300 new law enforcement agents to reinforce the security work in Benito Juarez, Cancún.

Interviewed upon arrival at the Cancun Convention Center, the mayor announced that Cancun is a city that has grown too fast and that is why it presents problems of insecurity.

He argued that in order to face this situation, the people of Cancun needs to be aware that this type of problems cannot be solved “from one day to the other” and it can even take several months or years to revert this situation”.

He also said the police corporation is working on the exams of reliability and the officers who are not fit for the position could be discharged in the coming days.

To conclude, he said that the corporation still has considerable shortcomings, however, they work together with the three levels of government to solve this problem and thereby provide a more reliable police and greater security to the citizenship.
