23 executions in four municipalities of Quintana Roo during Holy Week

Holy Week in Quintana Roo resulted in one of the bloodiest of the year with 23 executions in just four municipalities, Cancun being the most violent territory of all with 15 executions in the period from April 3 to 9, followed by Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen) with 4 crimes, Tulum with 3 cases and Isla Mujeres with one homicide.

The increase in executions was recorded even though before the start of the holiday period there were public security operatons in all the municipalities of the state.

On Monday, April 4, at the start of the Easter holiday period, six people were executed in Cancun: first, the bodies of four people executed by members of a criminal cell were found in the Hotel Zone, then two people were shot in the SM 75, one of whom died on the spot and, on the same day, a man was executed in Villas del Mar.

On Tuesday, April 4, three other people were also executed in Cancun. During the early hours of the morning, the dismembered body of a man was found in the Galaxias del Sol subdivision. Later, a man was shot to death on SM 50, and later a young woman was also shot to death in the Tres Reyes neighborhood of this tourist destination.

On Wednesday, April 5, a man was executed inside a house in the municipality of Tulum.

On Thursday, April 6, there were two other executions in Cancun: First, the discovery of a dismembered body in bags was reported in the parking lot of the Chedraui supermarket on Avenida José López Portillo, in Superblock 61, and later an execution was recorded in Superblock 74.

On Friday, April 7, five executions were recorded in three municipalities. In Tulum, a man was executed in the Colonia ‘2 de Octubre, while in Cancun, a young woman was shot to death in the Alfredo V, Bonfil area in an attack that left two more wounded, in addition to an attack on a furniture factory for alleged ‘protection fee’ where a man died.

In Playa del Carmen there was an attack in the Villamar I neighborhood that left one more dead and two injured, and later another attack in the La Guadalupana neighborhood in which a man was killed and his mother injured.

On Saturday, April 8, there were three executions: Two bodies were found inside a home in Puerto Aventuras, in the municipality of Solidaridad. And in Cobá, in the municipality of Tulum, outside a convenience store, a man who had just been recently released from prison was executed. That day there was also a man shot in a workshop in the Lakín neighborhood of Tulum, but he did not die.

On Sunday, April 9, three other executions were recorded: At dawn, two men were shot while riding a motorcycle on the López Portillo avenue in Cancún, one of whom died on the spot and later the other died in the hospital. And to close the week, a man was executed in the downtown area of Isla Mujeres.

This count does not consider cases of deaths in traffic accidents or diseases.
